Float weightlessly among ancient icebergs in a thermal immersion suit
The Fjallsárlón Ice Floating Experience lets you do something extraordinary — float safely and comfortably among 1,000-year-old icebergs in the glacier lagoon. Wearing a specially designed thermal immersion suit, you'll feel weightless as you drift through the icy waters with the towering Fjallsjökull glacier as your backdrop.
This is not swimming — it's floating. The suit keeps you completely dry and warm while you lie back and let the glacial water carry you. It's a meditative, almost otherworldly experience that connects you with Iceland's ancient ice in a way no boat tour can.
Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours (including briefing & equipment)
Floating Time: Around 30 minutes in the water
Season: Year-round
Experience Level: No previous experience required
Your adventure begins at the Fjallsárlón Tour Reception, where your guide will fit you with a thermal immersion suit and provide a thorough safety briefing. A short walk takes you to the lagoon's edge, where you'll gently enter the water under your guide's supervision.
Once you're floating, the world slows down. You'll drift peacefully among icebergs, gazing up at the glacier and the surrounding mountains. The silence is profound — just the soft lapping of water and the occasional creak of shifting ice. Your guide stays close, ensuring safety and pointing out interesting ice formations.
Back on land, you'll return to the boathouse to change, then head to the cozy Frost Restaurant for a complimentary hot drink. It's the perfect way to reflect on what you've just experienced while warming up with a glacier view.
The thermal immersion suit is provided and keeps you completely dry, but dress comfortably underneath:
