Where is Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon?

Fjallsárlón is located on Iceland's stunning South Coast in Vatnajökull National Park, approximately:

Driving Directions from Reykjavik

  1. Take Route 1 (Ring Road) heading east from Reykjavik
  2. Continue on Route 1 through Hvolsvöllur, Vík, and Skaftafell
  3. Approximately 10 km after Skaftafell, watch for signs to Fjallsárlón
  4. Turn right (south) at the signed turnoff
  5. The parking area is just off Route 1

Road Conditions

Route 1 (Ring Road) is Iceland's main highway and is paved and well-maintained year-round. A standard 2WD rental car is sufficient in summer. Winter driving (November-March) can involve snow and ice—drive cautiously and check road conditions at road.is before departing.

Unlike many Iceland attractions, Fjallsárlón offers completely free parking. There are two main parking areas:

Alternative Viewpoint Parking

A second smaller parking area offers a different vantage point. Both are free and rarely full, even in peak summer.
